Very Expensive 1969 Fiat 124 Coupe on eBay

UPDATE 1/16/09 - This car was sold using eBay's "Best Offer" feature. I do not know what the sale price was.
My first thought when seeing this listing was that $9500.00 for a Fiat 124 is an INSANE amount of money. But then again, maybe it's not, especially if it's a 124 Coupe you're looking for.

What may make this car worth $9500.00 is that it still exists. Fiats rusted like few other cars rusted. Their electrical systems seemed to be designed by the British (or at least copied from the Brits). Body pieces fell off, transmissions self destructed and engines overheated. Most Fiats found their way to junkyards very early in life.

Having said all that, Fiats were not all bad. They had rev happy engines, handled well and were loaded with whatever it is that makes Italian cars so special.

The 124 Coupe was a fairly advanced car in its day. A DOHC engine, 4 wheel discs and a 5 speed transmission were not common on cars in 1969. The ones that had them usually cost significantly more than a 124.

This is not a car for everyone. For $9500.00 you could buy a lot of other nice, old cars. Cars that are easier to get parts for, cars that are more reliable, cars that you wouldn't have to "explain". But I'm not certain you'll ever find a Fiat 124 Coupe in this condition for any price. If a turnkey 124 Coupe is what you want, this may very well be worth the money.

To find one unrusted is indeed rare, I have one, its an everyday driver, reliable and a great car. If the mechanical bits and suspension, electrics are good its a cheap car. try restoring one and watch the costs go up
