Weekend Quickies

1991 Peugeot SW8 - Here's one for all the Peugeot fans out there (of which I am one)...

This is a 108,000 mile one owner car. The body and interior appear to be in excellent condition. The car has been well maintained and according to the seller, everything works except the radio.

Peugeots 505s, especially the later ones, are well built, extremely comfortable cars. They're more reliable than you think and very easy to work on. (I've owned 2)

$2500.00 for this car seems like a bargain. Located in Deltona, FL, click here to see the Craigslist listing.

1966 Rover P5 Mark II
- This car was in an accident in 1970. It hasn't been driven since. It has just 35,000 miles on it.

It obviously needs bodywork, but appears to be amazingly rust free. The interior is dirty but in great shape for an unrestored 43 year old car. The dashboard looks be be in remarkable condition. All the trim pieces and glass, except for the parts damaged in the accident, are still with the car and look to be in good condition.

From the pictures it looks like the upper radiator hose is missing, so it's safe to assume the car hasn't run in a long time.

The sellers "Buy It Now" price seems to be a little on the high side at first, but if you think about the time, money and effort it would take to restore a rusty PB5, along with the fact that this is a low mileage car, you realize that the price is reasonable.

1969 AMX - I have a friend who is all about European cars. She wants an Olds 442 someday. I have another friend who's into big, old, Oldsmobiles. He wants a Fiat X 1/9.

We all have one or two cars we desire that don't fit our stereotype.

Mine is the AMC Javelin / AMX. I want one someday. I'm not a muscle car fan, but there's something about the Javelin and AMX that makes me want one. Badly. If I had the storage space, I'd buy this car in a heartbeat. It makes no sense, I know.

This is just a nice, well restored, well cared for 1969 AMX with a 343 and a 4-speed. The seller's description and pictures tell the story.

One Man's Experience Buying a Used Car Online - This is a pathetic and interesting story. As I've written a few times in the past, buying a car online is always a risky proposition.

Most of us could easily find ourselves in this guy's situation. Everything he did seems reasonable.

Read the story here.

The good news is that I came across the link to this piece on Consumerist.com. Consumerist.com rarely gets directly involved in problems or issues, but the negative publicity that being on Comsumerist.com causes usually means the the problem gets straightened out. I would bet that Palm Beach Pre-owned refunds his money by Monday. His credit score problem is a whole 'nother issue though. I hope he has a good lawyer.

Caveat emptor.
