1991 BMW 8-Series DinanTurbo

A quick evening post...

I know I've written quite a bit about the E31 8 Series in the past, and I don't mean to turn this into an 8 Series blog, but I had to point this car out. I'll make it quick...

This is a Dinan twin-turbo 850i. The V12 in standard BMW tune puts out about 300HP. In Dinan twin turbo form, it puts out over 500HP.

This is the type of car I love. There is nothing, other than the "Turbo" badge on the rear, that says this car is anything other than a standard E31 8 Series. Everything, right down to the wheels are stock BMW. This is the way a tuned car should be. In my eyes this car is perfect.

Dinan built roughly 50 E31 Twin Turbos. When new it cost around $123,000.00. This 30,000 mile car has a "Buy It Now" price of $29,991.00. There are very few cars this rare, this fast and this classy for that kind of money.

Located in Burlingame, CA, click here to see the eBay listing for this car.

This is the car BMW should have built from the start. The bog standard 840 and 850 were good cars, just lacking in the performance department. The flagship 850csi had limited production due to the engine failing to meet emission regulations. 400HP in these cars would have made them exotic super-cars, a Ferrari alternative. As it was they were just GT's when the market in the 90's did not really call for expensive GT's.

It will be interesting to see what BMW will do in the future, the R8 has been a huge brand booster for Audi, I wouldn't be surprised if BMW had a new 8 in the works.
