I Hate This Ad...

Can I vent here for a minute?

This eBay listing has been running on and off for a few months now. Essentially, this guy has stumbled upon some unusual old cars. All of them look to be too far gone to realistically restore.

Besides the BMW 502 shown above, he also has a 1969 Jaguar E type 2+2 Automatic, a 1955 Mercedes 300 "Coupe", a 1949 Sunbeam Talbot and a "1950's (?)" Riley. All of them are in similar shape to the BMW.

Here's my beef...He's looking to get $3000.00 for the BMW. His ad states:

"LOWERED PRICE, LAST TIME THESE CARS WILL BE OFFERED!!
THIS IS MY 3rd And Final Auction Offering These Classic Cars!!"

"This car must be saved! Parts or a Possible Restoration.Car has Engine and Transmission, the engine is same used in The BMW 507 Sports Roadster. The photos say it all, what you see is what you get. These cars sell for over $25,000 in Used original Condition, more restored. PLEASE NOTE: I'm trying to save these cars from being destroyed (crushed) Make offers now on lowered BIN Price...Serious buyers only, DO NOT OFFER Me $200 on any of these cars! Please do the research before bidding!"

OK, fine, $200.00 may be unreasonable for this car, but so is $3000.00. What's the scrap value on a car like this? $200.00 - $300.00, maybe? So why not let it go for a reasonable price? Given that its the third time he's listed these cars, you'd think he'd have figured out that his asking price is too high. It's as if he's holding them for ransom. "Pay my price or or I'll kill this car".

If the seller goes through with his threat, 5 unusual parts cars will go to the crusher and he'll get $1500.00, maybe (on a good day). Or, he could be realistic and let each car go for a reasonable price and net much more.

I just don't get it.

Greed - It's what's killing the old car hobby and this country...

Thanks for letting me vent.

You can find his eBay listing / ransom note here.
