1988 BMW M5

The e28 M5 was the first M5. It was a truly amazing car when it was introduced and it's a truly amazing car now.

Some e28 M5 trivia:

BMW had planned to build just 500 US spec M5s. Due to demand, they wound up building over 1200.

All US spec e28 M5s were painted black. All but a handful, less than 25 according to some websites, came with tan leather interiors. The other 25 or so had black interiors.

While all US spec e28 M5s are 1988 model year cars, they were all built between November 1986 and November 1987.

BMW quoted a 0 - 60 time of 6.5 seconds. That may be on the conservative side. Many people feel BMW quoted a slightly slower than actual 0-60 time in order to not show that the M5 outperformed the top of the line M6.

The M5 being offered on eBay is a well maintained, high mileage (235,000 miles) car. Most surviving e28 M5s are high mileage cars. These are cars that are meant to be driven often and it appears that's exactly what most e28 M5 owners do.

The seller says there has been over $6000.00 worth of work done in the past 2 years and has service records for the past 10 years.

This is yet another car that if I had unlimited storage space and unlimited "car funds", would be in my collection.
