1973 Ford Mustang Grande

This is a stunning 1973 Mustang Grande. The Grande was the "luxury" version of the Mustang. "Luxury" in the US in 1973 meant it has a vinyl roof, dual mirrors, body stripes, a "deluxe" interior with fake woodgrain and all sorts of other tack on items. Just about every US car manufacturer offered a "deluxe" version of just about every car they made, but few did it as well as Ford did it with the Mustang Grande. This is not a tacky looking car.

This car has been owned by the same person - the seller's mother-in-law - for the past 36 years. She is now 90 and no longer driving. The car has just 59,000 miles on it. The seller describes it as being in "good condition". He has the original keys, manuals, and maintenance records.

The Grande came standard with a 250ci inline six-cylinder, but this one has the optional 351 V8 in it. That's not going to give you Boss or Cobra Jet performance, but it should still be plenty quick. This car has the original optional Ford AM/FM radio in it and air conditioning.

I am not an expert on old Mustang prices by any means, but if the car is as nice as it seems in the pictures, the asking price of $9600.00 seems very reasonable.

I've never been a huge old Mustang fan, but if I had an extra $10K lying around, I'd buy this car in a heartbeat.

Located in Westlake, Ohio, click here to see the Craigslist ad. (The seller provides a link to a Photobucket album with a ton of good, clear pictures.)

Ten. As in "ten miles per gallon." A friend of mine had the fastback version of this car with the 351 V8. Take your gas money, set it on fire and throw it out the window. It will disappear slower than the money you put in the tank.

The Larz Anderson Museum in Brookline had a 1972 convertible donated when I worked there. I took it out once - it felt and sounded like a ride in a Crown Vic taxi. And those hubcaps were shared with the Ford LTD/Torino large sedan.

It's green, old, and more than a few pounds overweight.

The perfect AUNT ELEANOR "tribute" car.
