1993 Audi S4

Audi kept us on our toes in the '80s and '90s with the changes it made to the names of its models. This S4 was was the performance version of the mid-sized Audi 100, which was the replacement for the 5000. Audi stopped using the 100 name in 1994. It re-badged the car as the Audi A6 and the S4 became the S6. The current S4 is based on the smaller A4. The A4 replaced for the Audi 80 / 90 series, which was the replacement for the 4000... Oh yeah, prior to the 100 based S4, Audi's performance sedan was the 200 Quattro Turbo, which was based on the earlier 5000 / 100 platform. Whew... Hopefully Audi likes its model names now and keeps them as is. There's only so much information the human brain can process.

I really like these cars. Known in Audi circles as the Urspr√ľnglich S4 (UR-S4), it was a great car when it was introduced in 1991 and it's still an impressive car today. The turbocharged, intercooled, 2.2 liter 5 cylinder engine got the car to 60MPH in just over 6 seconds. The car came with uprated ABS brakes and, of course, Audi's AWD Quattro system. All US bound S4s came with a 5 speed manual transmission. It was a sports sedan in every sense of the words.

In my mind, Audi designs interiors, especially dashboards and instrument clusters, better than any other car company. They been doing that for awhile. The interior in this car still looks modern 17 years later. Ironically, I don't think the older Audi body styles have aged very well. They looked modern and sleek when new, but now look dated. (The Avant versions have aged better, however.) This car doesn't look bad by any means, it just doesn't look as "classic" as, for instance, a similar vintage BMW 5 Series does.

Audis in general take very well to tuning, but this car, except for a performance exhaust, is stock. You don't see many like this. Based on the pictures, this car shows all the signs of being a well cared for S4. Even with 102K miles on it, it looks as good as it did when new.

For many years older Audis sold for very little money. That's changed. It will be interesting to see what this pristine UR-S4 sells for.

If I were in the market for a UR-S4, this would be the car I'd want.

Amazing car, perfect condition and a full service history to boot! Not many left like this. Might hit $10k?? I am guessing the final price would probably get you a B5 S4, but there is something about the C4 Audi's which makes them more desirable.

Sold for $7800 which i'd say is a great price for a well taken care of S4, highest bidder has a zero feedback rating though :-/
