Looking For Clues...

This is not the usual Just a Car Geek post, but I'm intrigued... Let's see if we can help this guy out.

Hello,

Would you like to take this challenge for a good cause and help reddit identify this car from a security camera snapshot ?

Link.

They tend to think that it's a VW Fox. I'm not familiar with this model since I'm from somewhere in Europe but to me it does not quite match. Something with the front is not right.

Also, car geek myself, love your blog! (I own a Mazda RX-8, my previous car was a Peugeot 305!)

Cheers

A challenge!

Looks like a late 80's Fox to me, they even had that small chrome strip above the front bumper which is visible in the picture. Or it could be a Renault Alliance Coupe, mid 80's of course, with a slightly different headlamp assembly for the turn signals (could be some OEM replacement?).....actually the more I look at it the more I see 80's Renault (the headlights are sunk a little past the grill)...hmmmmm...

Renault Alliance. Look at the insrument pod. Fox had more conservative dash, and the tapers on the outer edge of the parking lamp taper as per Renault. Fox lamp was tapered much less, and the other way. Running examples of both exist in my neighborhood!

Bill, good point, never thought about the instrument pods, both very different. Headlights are throwing me off though, I didn't know they ever made once piece assemblies? Then again the picture is so bad.....

The badge of the grill looks about the same size as a Renault's...maybe a two door GTA? They were common in black......

Ahhhhhhhh! Renault did do a chrome grill for the front, with very shiny ends (I thought they were turn signals!).....Googling for a pic.....found.....uploading.....

This has to be it

This looks like the one, same chrome around the windshield! Chrome around the lights, and with the position of the camera, the grill looks black but is chrome on the front!!

Can't be many of them kicking around, why didn't they just use a Taurus for there evil ways? Should be easy to pick them up if the car is still registered.

So, do I win a prize? I enjoyed that, crime fighting is a lot of fun...haha...this should be a regular feature...guess the car from the fuzzy picture.

It is not a Renault. The dash on the Renault is a big rectangle while the bulge over the steering wheel here does not go as far on the dash.

My guess is a fox
