Weekend Quickies - Saturday, April 21, 2012 - All Topless

1995 Toyota Celica GT Convertible - I never know what to call a Celica. A sports car? A sports coupe? A GT? Depending on the year or model, it can be any of those.

This one is easy. It's a 2+2 convertible. Developed by Toyota and ASC, it came with a 2.2 liter I4 that was capable of getting the car to 60 in 8.9 seconds.

This one is in overall good, but not perfect, condition. It's a no reserve auction. If you bid wisely, you could buy it, put a few dollars into it, drive all summer and, in the fall, sell it for what you paid for it.

A big thanks to Tony for sending me this link!

1984 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible - It's hard to believe now, but back in 1982, when Chrysler introduced this car, it created excitement. A lot of excitement.

The excitement did not come from the LeBaron name being placed on a tarted up K Car, but from it being the first US factory built convertible since the 1976 Cadillac Eldorado. After the Eldo, it was assumed that US automakers would not be building convertibles again.

The LeBaron is what it is. A K Car with "luxury" touches and a formal nose.

This one has just 44,000 miles on it. The seller says it needs a blower motor.

A big thanks to Dan for sending me the link to this car!

1995 Mercedes Benz E320 Cabriolet - The company selling this car  is called Northwest Investment Cars."Investment". That's a word that scares me when it's connected to the word "cars." Stocks and bonds are for investing.  Cars are for driving.

I allowed myself to get past the word "investment" because this is a beautiful car. Dark green with a tan top and a cream interior. Pure class.

Mercedes-Benz W124 cars (of which this is one) are prone to transmission, head gasket and wiring harness problems. For the price the seller is asking for this one, you should make sure that those problems have already occurred and have been taken care of. If not, find a cheaper one or one with service records.

Located in Portland, OR, click here to see the Craigslist ad.

1994 Nissan 240SX Convertible - Like the Celica above, this car was also created in conjunction with ASC. Unlike the Celica, there was never any pretense of this car being a sports car. It was just a fun, sporty, nice handling cruiser.

Again, like the Celica, this car is in good, but not perfect condition. But, it's a car you could drive all summer and restore during the winter.
