I love the R5 / LeCar. If you search JaCG, you'll find find a ton of posts about them. They are fun to drive, comfortable and economical. They are not, however, fast. I have to assume that the 600 residents of LaConner were basically law abiding citizens.
Renault took advantage of this purchase (and, I suspect, helped, at least in part, to finance it) and used these police cars in an ad. I'm not sure how effective it was back in the day, but people seem to love the ad now. If you do a search for "LaConner LeCar police car," the ad shows up on a bunch of websites, many not automotive related.
This is a replica of one of those cars, complete with all of the special police goodies. I could not find a site that says what happened to the original cars. I have to assume that after being used up, they were scrapped.
It is not an exact replica, but pretty damn close. The big difference is the model year. Based on the ad, LaConner bought the LeCars in 1978. This one, based on the headlights and interior trim, is a 1980 - 1983 LeCar.
But really, who cares about a little detail like the model year? SOMEONE BUILT A REPLICA OF ONE OF THE 3 RENAULT LECAR POLICE CRUISERS! ("Cruiser" is a relative word here.) How cool is that?
The asking price is $12,900.00. That kind of money will buy you 2 or 3 of the best non-police car LeCars around. But, if you have some extra cash and if you want to attract attention and put smiles on peoples faces, this LeCar police car is the way to go.

A huge thanks to JaCG reader, Todd, for sending me the link to this car!
