Lime Rock Park, Lime Rock, CT

Rolex Vintage fall Festival 2008

I always wanted to walk the track at Lime Rock Park. I had been on it in a car a few times, but I always just wanted to walk around it; to see it up close, the pavement, the walls, the grass, all of it. In 2006 I finally did it.

I don't know why I had never done it before then. I had been going to events there for as long as I can remember. I guess sometimes when I thought about it in the past the person or people I was with weren't into doing it and I didn't want to be a bother. Sometimes I'd get so wrapped up in something else that I'd just plain forget. Sometimes there were cars running the track.

It was Labor Day Weekend when I did it. There were no cars on the track and the person I was with didn't seem to mind the walk. I think we walked around it two times, maybe three. I did what I had always wanted to do; look at everything close up. Honestly, as odd and hokey as this sounds, it is a time I will never forget.

I didn't know it at the time, but it turned out to be the one and only time I'd get to walk around the "old track". Lime Rock was preparing to refurbish the track for the 2008 season. (I went to the Vintage Fall Festival in 2007, but didn't walk the track again)

I am so glad I got to walk on the old track, a track that had so much history, but in doing so it became clear why a new track was needed.

In July 2008 Lime Rock opened the "new track". Not only did the repave it, but they made some small changes to the shape of the track, making racing more challenging and exciting.

Lime Rock Park is one of those places that every car geek needs to go to at least once in their lives. They have posted their 2009 schedule on their website. Click here to see it.

Below are some videos of the old track and the new track as seen from two spectacular cars. Enjoy!
