1988 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon - An Amazing Example...

A very quick afternoon post...

Looking for an old station wagon? This is the one to get. The Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon was a sports sedan in station wagon clothing. Heck, with a few subtle suspension / engine tweaks it can easily become a sports car in station wagon clothing.

The 740 Turbo was a station wagon that could easily hang with the best of the best from Europe. O-60 came in 7 seconds. RWD meant it handled. Volvo build quality meant it lasted.

The car being offered on eBay is amazing. It has just 18,000 miles on it. It is easily the nicest 1988 Volvo 740 Turbo Wagon I've ever seen.

I'm apparently not the only one who thinks this is an incredibly well preserved car... As I write this, the high bid for this car is $8900.00, with 9 days still left to go in the auction.

This is just a stunning 20 year old Volvo.

Amazing condition, but ouch, the price must be high! Sitting at $9200 and the reserve has not been met, $10k reserve? Your getting close to low millage V70 T5's for a little bit more, hell, $15k here will buy you a nice V70R with 40k miles. A future classic no doubt if you could keep the miles down.

I've had 3 Volvo 740 Turbos, 2 wagons and 1 sedan.

My 91 wagon surprised everyone that got in it, home brew suspension, big 'ole anti-roll bar, LOTS (20psi of boost, vs 7 from the factory) on a bigger turbo, fancy-pants cam, bigger intercooler, big fat injectors, and a whole lot of run.

From the outside, other than being lowered a good bit (sat down like a typical sport sedan instead of 4" of tire clearance, it wasn't slammed), it looked stock.

I really enjoyed that car, but wanted something smaller - Fiat X1/9 won out.

Sure you can get a T5 for about the same price, but the T5 is driving the front wheels and doesn't have that massive engine bay that makes working on the 700/900 so easy.

To me the 740 / 760 was the last real Volvo.

Great cars.

This one is now at $14,000.00 - You really have to be a Volvo nut to pay that for this car. It's nice, but there are much nicer cars that could be had for $14,000.00
