More Weekend Quickies

1975 Fiat Amphibious Car - The first thing that came to mind when I saw this listing was, what kind of idiot purposely introduces a notoriously rust prone car to water? Then I read the text. This is a very, very impressive piece of home engineering.

The body is made of aluminum and attached to the Fiat frame. The engine is a 900cc Fiat engine that has a Berkley jet engine attached to it via a clutch drive mechanism. The wheels retract up into the body when the car is in the water. According to the seller, it took the previous owner 25 years and 7000 man hours to build this car.

This Fiat car / boat is being offered on eBay with no reserve. You can find the listing here.

1992 Audi S4 - The Audi S4 is a pretty impressive car. This one is even more impressive...

The seller essentially rebuilt this car to RS2 specs, including rebuilding the engine with RS2 Pistons, RS2 Rods, RS2 cams, RS2 exhaust manifold, RS2 Porsche Turbo, Complete Samco intercooler piping, Bosch 3 Bar MAP sensor, Iridium spark plugs and MTM Stage 3 Tuning. He also replaced the transmission with a European 6 speed. The suspension and brakes have been upgraded and it now rides on R8 wheels.

The great thing about this car is other than the RS2 badge the owner put on the car, no one will know how special this car is. It's a true sleeper.

If the car is everything the seller says it is, the $8450.00 asking price seems like a bargain.

1986 Merkur XR4Ti - I don't know if this is really the "rare collector gem" the seller says it is, but is appears to be a very nice example.

Odd styling, little annoying mechanical problems, a name that was unpronounceable to many people in the US, a dealer network that didn't want to sell the car and an increasing Deutsche Mark exchange rate all conspired to keep this from selling well in the US.

All-in-all it wasn't a bad car. It was comparable to Audis and Saabs of the day.

This one has a claimed 37,000 miles on it and appears to be in very good condition.
