New Years Day Quickies

1976 Fiat 128 Wagon - Back in the 1970s and 1980s, Fiats were everywhere. Used ones were dirt cheap and, for the period of time that they actually ran, they were pretty fun cars to drive.

At first I was stunned to see the asking price for this car. $10,000.00 for a Fiat wagon? Wow. But the more I thought about it, the more justifiable that price seemed. When was the last time you saw one of these is this condition? Unless you visited a Fiat showroom in 1976, the answer is probably "never".

This is, for all intents and purposes, a totally rebuilt Fiat 128 Wagon. You can read the details in the seller's listing.

$10K is A LOT of money for an old Fiat station wagon. It's not money I'd spend, but if you've always had your heart set on a yellow 128 wagon, this may be the best one around.

Located in Santa Cruz, CA, click here to see the eBay listing for this car.

1993 Jaguar XJ220 - I should probably leave this car for Hoov, over at Grey In The USA, but I couldn't resist pointing it out. The seller calls it "one of the best looking exotics ever made". He's right about that.

The XJ220 can do over 200 MPH. It can get to 60 MPH in less then 4 seconds. Oh yeah, it does all that with a 6 cylinder engine.

By all accounts this car was not a success. Jaguar presold the car in 1988. By the time it hit the market in 1992, a worldwide recession, a change from the original plan of powering it with a V12, and the introduction of the McLaren F1, caused many people to cancel their orders. A total of 281 cars were built.

This car, which I assume was imported for "show or display", is located in Orlando, FL. Click here for the eBay listing.

Cars Under £500 - This would be a dangerous website for me if I lived in Great Britain. This is a list, a large list, of cars for under £500 (roughly $810.00 US). The title of the site is a little misleading as many of the cars are listed on eBay with a starting price of under £500, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll sell for that price. Not that it really matters, it's still a very cool site to spend some time on. It's sort of the anti-Jameslist.

This car caught my eye... A 1993 Renault 19 Convertible. The first £500 takes it away.
You can find the Cars For Under £500 website here.
There is a similar US site called Cars Under under $1000.00.

1992 Subaru SVX - AWD is an asset here in New England. I know. My indecisiveness this year has left me with only one car at the moment, my BMW. As much as I love my BMW, it sucks in the snow. It snowed this morning. It was an instant reminder as to why I always have a winter-beater car.

This would be a cool winter-beater. It's as weird as any car I've ever owned, but it's AWD.

The car was designed by Giugiaro It's a controversial design. People either love it or hate it.

The SVX came with Subaru's 3.3 liter flat-6 engine. At the time it was the largest engine ever offered by Subaru. This engine put out 230 HP and could propel the car to 60 MPH in 7.5 seconds. That's impressive.

This car is located in East Windsor, CT. I'm familiar with the dealer. Their cheaper cars are usually well running, high mileage, cosmetically challenged cars. This car is typical. It has a few minor scratches on the bumpers. I would assume that it also has some small dings that don't show up in the pictures. But the price is only $1995.00 and there are very few AWD cars that perform like this one does available for that type of money. It would be a great winter-beater. Click here to see the listing.

Happy New Year!

I love the XJ220. We had one on consignemnt, but it was brought over well before Show or Display was enacted. The owner had to convert it to a race car in order for it to be allowed through customs, and it is still not road-legal because of it. Sad because it lost that awesome interior in the process.

In a post where there is the highly exotic XJ220, I was much more excited about the 128 Familiare...I cannot even remember when I have seen one in any condition in the US. As a kid, my Mom had a white 128 sedan and I HATED it (mainly because my Dad traded in his 1970 124 Coupe for it)...funny how now I would kill for that car
