Low Mileage 1978 Volkswagen Dasher

This car has been on Craigslist for at least a couple of weeks. I resisted writing about it because the ad is, well, just plain weird. It has some mentions of the Dasher in general, but very little specific info about this particular car. It includes some video links, but only one relates to this car and that one is just a series of still photos in a loop. (Find it here.) Oh yeah, then there is the seller's mention of needing money to help pay for a memorial marker for her dad and to help pay off his medical expenses. That's sad, and probably true, but it does make the ad sound like a scam, even if it's not.

Caveat emptor...

So, here's what we know about this car... It has 49010 miles on it. It was purchased new by the seller's dad. The seller says it has no rust. The drivers seat has a split and the dash has a few cracks. Everything about the car appears to be original. There is no mention of how it runs.

It has an automatic transmission, which I realize turns off a lot of buyers.

The seller is asking $3700.00. I wrote about another low mileage Dasher in December, 2013. You can find the post here. It was a pristine station wagon that had 23,000 miles on it. It was bid up to $5400.00. If that's now the benchmark price for low mileage Dashers, this car, with 26K more miles and a few flaws, is s bit over priced. However, the seller does seem to be open to offers.

If you're looking for a pure sports sedan, this is not the car for you. But, this Dasher, with the automatic and air conditioning could be the perfect classic commuter car.

Located in Palmdale, CA, click here to see the Craigslist ad.

I was never sure if naming a new car after one of Santa Claus's reindeer was a good thing or not.

But, in a wise move from a German car company, "Blitzen" didn't make the list.
