1960 Opel Rekord - My Dad Had One Just Like This...

My dad an Opel Rekord. It was identical to this one. Same year, same color. I was very young when he owned it and I don't think I remember much about it. (It's one of those cases where I don't know if I remember it firsthand, or remember it from photos and stories.)

He used it to commute from Long Island to Manhattan each day That's what it was best used for. It had just around 40 horsepower on tap, but during rush hour on the Long Island Expressway, that was more than enough. The shifter was mounted on the column.

I don't remember what happened to my dad's Rekord. (One of his cars - maybe the Rekord - wound up in the window of a furniture store in Queens. He parked it there and a truck hit it, pushing it across the sidewalk and into the store.) But, he bought a few Opels after it, so he must have liked it.

The Rekord was not fast, not especially good looking and not groundbreaking in any way. When they lost their usefulness they were usually scrapped. That's what makes this car so cool... It still exists.

This car is being offered by its second owner and is in remarkably good shape. He says it's in "good condition," so I assume it runs. The body looks decent and the interior looks very nice.

It's been a long time since I've seen a Rekord, let alone one in decent original condition. I guess if I had unlimited cash I would buy this to relive the memories I may or may not have of my dad's car. But I don't have unlimited cash, so it's up to someone else to buy and preserve this car. I hope it finds a good home.
